Jason Del Rosso Named 2009-10 Golf MVP

May 19, 2010

As the 2009-10 season begins to wind down, the Fordham University Athletic Department held its 76th annual Block F Awards Dinner at the Villa Barone Manor on May 6th to honor Fordham University's student-athletes for their accomplishments during the academic year.

Among those honored was freshman Jason Del Rosso, who was named the 2009-10 golf most valuable performer.

Del Rosso enjoyed an incredible first season at Fordham, setting school records for a single round, tow-round tournament and three-round tournament. He shot a school record low 67 (-4) in the opening round of the Dartmouth Invitational, surpassing the previous best round of 68, shot by both Michael Finocchi and Brian McClure in 2006. Del Rosso shot a 31 on the front and 36 on the back, which included a tournament best seven birdies. Del Rosso then shot a 72 on the second day for a two-round total of 139, breaking the school record of 140, set in 2007, by Nico Mizono at the Hofstra Invitational. For his exploits, Del Rosso was named Atlantic 10 Rookie and Performer of the Week, the first of three A-10 Rookie of the Week awards for the freshman.

The following week at the MacDonald Cup at Yale, Del Rosso carded a 215 in the three-round event, breaking the school record of 216, originally set by Brian McClure at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championship.

On the year, Del Rosso averaged a team-best 75.9 strokes/round.
