Fordham's Chris Walker Named Atlantic 10 Baseball Co-Player of the Week

May 17, 2010

Newport News, Va. - Fordham University junior catcher Chris Walker (Bethpage, N.Y./St. Anthony's) was named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week today by the conference office. It is the first career honor for Walker.

Walker is the third Fordham player to receive a weekly award this season, joining Max Krakowiak (Pitcher), Brian Pendergast (Pitcher), and Ryan Lee (Rookie).

This weekend, Walker became only the second Fordham player in school history to have 20 doubles and 50 RBI in the same season, joining Mike Marchiano's 1997 season. He batted .667 (10-15) over the weekend with three doubles, two home runs, 10 RBI, and a 1.267 slugging percentage.

He tied a then career-high with four RBI to go with two doubles and two runs scored on Friday at George Washington to open the three-game series. Walker then set single game career-highs in hits, RBI, and home runs, going 5-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI on Saturday. He also had his 22nd double in that game, breaking Fordham's single season record of 21, set by Marchiano in 1997. He capped the weekend with two hits and an RBI on Sunday, becoming the 10th Ram to reach 50 RBI in a single season at 53 which stands tied for fourth at Fordham with John Mollicone (2007).

Walker currently leads the Rams in doubles (22), home runs (6), RBI (53), total bases (111), and slugging percentage (.555), while being second in batting average at .355.

Walker and the rest of the Fordham baseball team will next be in action on Tuesday, May 18th, when they play at Seton Hall, beginning at 6:00 PM. Fordham will then host Duqusene for a three-game Altantic 10 series at home from May 20-22.
