Princeton, N.J. -

The Fordham men's 4x800 relay closed out the IC4A Championships on Sunday by placing fourth in the race at Princeton University.

The Ram's 4x800 relay team of Tim Hutchinson, Kevin Fitzgerald, John Cosgrove and Brian Schmidt placed fourth in a time of 7:27.29. Connecticut won the race in 7:23.49 followed by Penn and George Mason with the Rams 2.63 seconds behind the Patriots. Splits for the 4x800 were: Hutchinson (1:53.7), Schmidt (1:51.0), Cosgrove (1:51.8) and Fitzgerald (1:50.4). As pointed out on Armory Track.com, Fordham's time of 7:27.29 was almost identical to the 7:27.1 clocking by the 1954 Fordham 4x800 relay, anchored by Olympic champion-to-be Tom Courtney, which was a then world record!

The Fordham 4x800 qualified for the finals by placing second in its heat on Saturday. The Rams closed a 7:30.56 in the heat and were edged at the line by Connecticut by 0.05 seconds. Fordham's time was the third fastest qualifying time on the day.

In other events at the ECAC/IC4A Championships, Brigid Moriarty was the first runner to score for the Rams, crossing the line in the 10,000m in a time of 36:14.72 on Friday. The time was the fourth fastest time for a Fordham runner (Moriarty also has the second and third fastest times in school history). She was just over 15 seconds behind Duke's Sophie Ziemian for third place.
