Brigid Moriarty Takes Fourth in 10,000m at ECAC Championships

Members of the Fordham University outdoor track squad traveled down to Princeton on Friday to compete in the ECAC/IC4A Championships being hosted at Princeton University. Brigid Moriarty picked up points for the women by placing fourth in the 10,000m while the men's 4x800 relay qualified for the finals on Sunday.

Moriarty was the first runner to score for the Rams in the championships, crossing the line in the 10,000m in a time of 36:14.72 on Friday. The time was the fourth fastest time for a Fordham runner (Moriarty also has the second and third fastest times in school history). She was just over 15 seconds behind Duke's Sophie Ziemian for third place.

On Saturday, the relays took over with the men's 4x800 of Tim Hutchinson, Kevin Fitzgerald, John Cosgrove and Brian Schmidt placing second in its heat in a time of 7:30.56 to qualify for the finals slated for Sunday. The Rams, who were edged out on 0.05 seconds at the line by Connecticut in the heat, turned in the third fastest qualifying time on the day. The splits for the Rams were Hutchinson (1:55.5), Schmidt (1:50.8), Cosgrove (1:52.7) and Fitzgerald (1:51.5). 

In other relays, the Fordham men's 4x400 relay of Sean Atkinson (49.3), Christopher Lyons (48.6), Michael Rossi (50.2) and Michael Bongiorno (51.7) placed fifth in its heat in a time of 3:20.13 while the women's 4x400 team of Kelly Connolly (59.1), Elisabeth Warren (61.2), Kerry Kwalwasser (60.8) and Catherine Groene (59.1) took sixth in its heat in a time of 4:00.39.

Individually on Saturday, Kerri Gallagher placed third in her heat of the 800m in a season best time of 2:08.75. It was the second fastest time all-time at Fordham, behind only Lauren Gubicza's school record of 2:07.1.

The ECAC/IC4A Championships conclude on Sunday at Princeton.
