Final Self Study Report
After completing an initial draft of a comprehensive self-study evaluating the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation and receiving feedback from the community, Fordham University has completed its self-study report for the NCAA. The report was submitted to the NCAA on May 4th and the university is now waiting for a peer review team evaluation visit in the fall of 2010.
The National Collegiate Athletic Association requires all Division I schools to conduct self studies every 10 years to provide faculty, staff and students, as well as the public, with an overview of the department. This will be the third cycle review for the Fordham Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation. The department was deemed "Certified" during the first certification process in 1994-95 and again for the second cycle in 2000-01.
Fordham's current self study began in August 2009 with the formation of a university wide steering committee. Five subcommittees were formed to explore the following areas: governance and rules compliance, academic integrity, gender issues, diversity issues and student-athlete well-being. The subcommittees were comprised of faculty, staff, and student-athletes.
The steering committee took into consideration questions and feedback received at the March 24th Town Hall Open Forum, as well as feedback received via the website link. It then finalized the report and forwarded it to the NCAA on May 4th. The NCAA Committee on Athletic Certification will review the report and a peer review team will visit the Rose Hill campus October 6-8, 2010. The NCAA Committee on Athletic Certification will issue its findings by February 2011.
