Men's Golf Moves Up Two Spots To Eighth After Second Round At A10s

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The Fordham men's golf team moved up two places to eighth after the second round at the Atlantic 10 Golf Championships held at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla., on Saturday. The Charlotte 49ers still lead the pack with a 569 (288-281). Richmond is 13 strokes behind in second place.

The Rams have a combined score of 630 (317-313) after two rounds of Championship play. Xavier rounds out the top three at +30 (598), followed by Dayton (+35), George Washington (+39), St. Bonaventure (+55) and Rhode Island (+56). One stroke behind Fordham is Temple (+63), then Saint Joseph's (+70), Duquesne (+95) and La Salle (+108).

Charlotte's Corey Nagy is still in the lead after two rounds. He has carded a four-under 138 (67-71). In second is Olafur Loftsson, also from Charlotte with a -2, 140 (73-67). Richmond's Danel Walker is in third at one-under, 141 (69-72).

For Fordham, rookie Brody Nieporte (Atlanta, Ga./St. Pius) has taken the lead for Fordham, carding a 74 for Saturday, three shots better than his opening round. With a two-round total of 151 he is tied for 15th, along with Martin Liu from George Washington and Andy Sajevic from Charlotte. Nieporte was in 23rd after Friday's round. Nieporte birdied the first and sixth hole on the course on Saturday.

Next up for the Rams is sophomore Devon O'Rourke (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) who was tied for 40th on Friday with teammate and classmate Brendan Green (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy). O'Rourke moved up eight places, cutting six strokes from Friday's round to finish the second round +16 (82-76-158). O'Rourke carded three birdies during Saturday's round, including his final hole, the 16th. Green shot the same score for Saturday as he did on Friday, 82, and finished 47th with a combined score of 164.

Rookie Jason Del Rosso (Orlando, Fla./Bishop Moore), who led Fordham after the first round, shot a 86 for Saturday's round and fell to 41st at 20-over (76-86-162).

Senior David Newman (North Dighton, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth Regional) rounds out the group for the Rams. Newman shaved nine strokes from Friday's round with an 81. With a 171, he is tied for 54th out of 60, two places better than Friday.

The Fordham Rams hope to continue to climb the leaderboard with the final round of the Atlantic 10 Championships, starting at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
