Fordham women's tennis coach Bette-Ann Speliotis Liguori announced the addition of three players for the 2010-11 season, which will include two freshmen and one transfer. They are Mia Fiocca (New Rochelle, N.Y./Laurel Springs (Barry Univ.)), Angelica Dabu (Jersey City, N.J./County Prep), and Hanna Fritzinger (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River).
Fiocca, a New Rochelle, N.Y. native, is a transfer student from Barry University, which is currently ranked #5 in nation among Division II schools. A four-star prospect when entering college, she was recently inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society at Barry University, while on the courts, she has a combined International Tennis Federation ranking of 285, which included 20 career singles wins and 18 career doubles wins. She reached the semifinals in three ITF events and won three ITF events in doubles.
This season at Barry, Fiocca advanced to the second round of the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational in singles play, and played in the doubles semifinals, falling to the doubles champions from Hillsboro Community College. She also won the singles backdraw at the 2009 ERAU Open, as well as winning the doubles gold flight at the same event.
Dabu, a Jersey City, N.J. native, is a member of the varsity tennis team at County Prep., where she is currently a four-star prospect and ranked #6 in New Jersey's Recruiting Class of 2010 by TennisRecruiting.net. She was also ranked as high as #40 in the nation in the 14s rankings, and was selected to the Eastern Intersectional team in the 16s.
A member of the National Honor Society, Dabu won a 16s National Event at age 14, as well as doubles titles at a 16s and 18s Sectional event. She was also a doubles semi-finalist in an 18s National Open, and won first place in the 14s and 16s in the Eastern Designated Closed Championship Circuit, where she was awarded at the U.S. Open.
Fritzinger, a native of Boca Raton, Florida, is a member of the varsity tennis team at Spanish River High School. She is currently rated as a four-star prospect and ranked #23 in Florida's 2010 Recruiting Class by TennisRecruiting.net, and was listed on Prince/Tennis Recruiting's Hot 100 List in June 2009. She won the June 2009 edition of the Bocagrove Summer Smashers G18, and was a quarterfinalist at the 2009 G18 Gulfstream Event sponsored by the USTA. She was also a G16 doubles winner at the 2008 Winter USTA Sectional in Lakeland, Florida.
A member of the National Honor Society, Fritzinger was a 2009 First Team All-County Singles and Doubles selection, after winning the Division 4A district and regional title at both #1 singles and doubles. In 2008, she was a Florida State Finalist in #1 doubles and semi-finalist in #2 singles, earning First Team All-County honors in doubles and singles by the Palm Beach Post.
