Men's Golf 10th After First Round Of A10 Championships

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - After the first round of the Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championships Fordham is 10th out of 12 teams vying for the 2010 team title. Charlotte is the current leader with a four-stroke lead over Richmond. The 49ers were led by the 2009 A10 individual champion, Corey Nagy, who is leading the field with a four-under 67 at the three-day Championships held at Mission Inn Resort at Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.

The 49ers shot a four-over 288 for their round. Richmond (+8) stands in second, followed by George Washington (+14), Xavier (+18), Dayton (+22), St. Bonaventure (+25), Temple (+27), Rhode Island (+29), Saint Joseph's (+31) and Fordham (+33). Fordham has a 19-stroke advantage over Duquesne (+52) and 24 over La Salle (+57).

For the Rams, rookie Jason Del Rosso (Orlando, Fla./Bishop Moore) is the team leader, tied for 18th carding a 76 (+5) at the par-71, 6,887-yards. Del Rosso started on the 16th hole, and was even through four. He ended up his first nine holes +2, birdying the fifth hole of the course. He finished up with just one bogey and parred the other eight holes.

Del Rosso is tied with four others at 18th, Andy Sajevic of Charlotte, Ben Conway of Rhode Island, Andrew Mason of Temple and Ed Carnes of La Salle.

Brody Nieporte (Atlanta, Ga./St. Pius) is one stroke behind classmate Del Rosso with a 77 (+6) for Friday. Del Rosso shot a near perfect on the front nine with just one bogey. Nieporte is tied for 23rd.

Sophomores Devon O'Rourke (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and Brendan Green (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) are tied at 40th with an 82. Senior David Newman (North Dighton, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth Regional) rounds out the five for Fordham with a 90, at 56th.

Del Rosso and the rest of the Fordham team will be back in action at 8 a.m. tomorrow for the second round of the Atlantic 10 Championships.
