Track & Field Has Final Tune-up For A-10's At Yale

New Haven, Conn. - While some runners for the Fordham track & field teams were at the Penn Relays, the rest of the team competed at Yale's Springtime Invitational in New Haven, Connecticut. In all Fordham had seven top ten finishes on the afternoon.

Leading the way for Fordham was freshman Courtnay Newman. Newman took ninth in high jump (5'1") and tenth in the 100 meter hurdles (16.23), while placing 15th in the shot put (30' ¼").

Other strong performances on the women's side included Blair Hassell in the javelin throw, placing eighth with a distance of 111' 7" with Mairin O'Connor placing 19th in the 1500 meters in 5:01.34.

On the men's side, Fordham had two finishers in the top seven of the 3,000 meter steeplechase, as Rich Grandelli took bronze in 9:53.24, while Andrew Roddin was seventh in 10:15.78.

Daniel Chediak and Tom Kelly rounded out the top tens, as Chediak was eighth in the 100 meter hurdles in 15.90 seconds, while Kelly was tenth in the 800 meters in 1:57.10.

Sam Stuart just finished outside the top 10 with an 11th-pace finish in the 1500 meters in 4:01.88, with Michael Rossi taking 13th in the 400 intermediate hurdles in a season-best time of 58.06. Augustus Gleason also performed well taking 13th in the 400 meters and 14th in the javelin throw (140' 7").

The men's and women's outdoor track teams will next be in action next Saturday, May 1st, as they compete at the 2010 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships held at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Mass.
