April 25, 2010

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. - After Day One of the Northeast Invitational, hosted by University of Rhode Island, the Fordham men's golf team is sat near the top of the leaderboard, in third place out of 11 teams. The Rams were four shots away from the leader, and host, URI, who have a combined 302 (+18). Sacred Heart finished second, shooting 20 over. After a rainy Saturday night, Sunday's rounds were canceled and Fordham's 22+ was the Rams' final socre.

Rookie Jason Del Rosso (Orlando, Fla./Bishop Moore) led the Rams, tied for fourth overall at four over par.

Del Rosso shot a 75 (40-35), along with four other golfers in the Northeast Invite.

Also in the top 20 are sophomore Devon O'Rourke (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan), rookie Brody Nieporte (Atlanta, Ga./St. Pius) and sophomore Brendan Green (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) all tied for 12th at six-over.

Captain David Newman (North Dighton, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth Regional) is in 40th in a field of 58 at 12-over.

The par on the course of Green Valley Country Club in Portsmouth, R.I., is 71.
