Belleville, Ill. - The Fordham University women's tennis team opened play at the 2010 Atlantic 10 Championship on Friday by falling to fourth-seeded Duquesne University, 4-1, at the Kings Point Sports Club. Bethany Boyle picked up the Fordham point with a win at third singles.

The Rams opened the match dropping the doubles point as Duquesne took two of the three doubles matches. Fordham's Elizabeth Stall and Martina Featherston won at third doubles over Tara Majdalani and Stephanie Novakowski, 8-3, but Duquesne's Rachel McGowan and Samantha Noble upended Sarah Tremaine and Jennifer Mullen, 8-0, at first doubles and Megan O'Sullivan and Erin Conroy defeated Fordham's Boyle and Taylor Holt, 8-2, at second doubles.

Boyle took her singles match in straight sets, defeating O'Sullivan 6-4 and 6-1.

Featherston battled at the second singles position, taking the first set from McGowan, 6-4, before dropping the second, 7-5. McGowan then won the match with a 6-0 win in the third set.

In other completed matches, Tremaine fell to Ana Mungo at first singles (6-2, 6-0) and Mullen was upended at fourth single by Conroy (6-0, 6-0).

The Rams will now play 12th-seeded St. Bonaventure on Saturday at 8:00 a.m.
