PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Harlem GlobeTrotters honor sophomore shortstop Brian Kownacki with the "Trotter Tribute" for his run-scoring leap over Iona catcher James Beck to score the final run in Fordham's 12-9 comeback victory over the Gaels on Tuesday night.
The "Trotter Tribute" honors professional and college athletes from all sports throughout the world whose play calls to mind the dazzling showmanship of "the world's most famous team.The honor is designed to recognize amazing and entertaining moments during the course of competition.
Members of the media often refer to unbelievable plays as "Globetrotter-esque," signifying fantastic athletic feats, as well as the unique trademark the team has emblazoned in incorporating entertainment into sports.
"I know Hi Rise Brown has big-time hops, but that man showed us some serious hang time," said Globetrotters Showman Big Easy Lofton of Kownacki's phenomenal play.
Kownacki's flight over Beck has garnered national media attention, including being the top play on ESPN's top 10 on Tuesday night.
