Men's and Women's Outdoor Track Compete at Colonial Relays

Williamsburg, Va. - The Fordham University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams commenced competition at the Colonial Relays at the College of William & Mary on Saturday with both teams finding success in the 800m as Kerri Gallagher placed fifth in the event for the women and Brian Schmidt was tenth for the men.

This year is the 45th season of the Colonial Relays, with 78 teams competing for the championship titles and over 1,500 athletes shooting for qualifying times to national and international championship competition.

Gallagher crossed the women's 800m finish line in a season-best and ECAC qualifying time of 2:09.95, just 0.26 seconds behind William & Mary's Kelly McElroy.

In the men's 800m, Schmidt clocked a season-best time of 1:52.77 to take tenth.

Other women competing for the Rams included Courtnay Newman, who was 19th in the javelin (30.65m) and 34th in the 100m hurdles (16.17*), Brigid Moriarty, who finished 24th in the 1500m (4:42.84), Elisabeth Warren, who placed 25th in the long jump (5.13m) and 26th in the 200m (26.58), Sherilyn Groeninger, who was 26th in the 400m (26.03) and fifth in her heat and 27th overall in the 100m (12.71), Kelly Connolly, who was 27th in the 400m (59.04), Kerry Kwalwasser, who placed 39th in the 400m (1:00.45), Sheena Parand, who finished 57th in the 1500m (5:04.23), Kellen Fitzgerald, who was 57th in the 400m (1:03.97), Mairin O'Connor, who took 61st in the 1500m (5:06.39), Ashley Davis, who placed 59th in the 800m (2:23.72), Vanessa Roberts, who was 65th in the 200m (29.37) and Bridget Carroll, who was 71st in the 800m (2:29.42).

On the men's side, John Korevec and Brian Riley placed 17th and 18th, respectively, in the 3000m steeplechase with Korevec's time of 9:39.04 being a season-high and Riley's time of 9:39.50 being the second fastest of the year for the Rams.

Others competitors for the Fordham men on day one included Julian Saad, who was 33rd in the 5000m (15:28.50), Kevin Fitzgerald, who took 33rd in the 1500m (3:58.55*), Christopher Lyons, who finished 35th in the 200m (22.83*), Frank Massaro (11.72) and Michael Bongiorno (11.73), who took 42nd and 43rd, respectively, in the 100m with Bongiorno also placing 58th in the 200m (23.62), John Cosgrove, who placed 46th in the 800m (1:56.22), Sean Atkinson, who was 48th in the 200m (23.14), Tim Hutchinson, who was 51st in the 800m (1:57.05), Jarrett Anistranski, who finished 55th in the 400m (51.83), Sam Stuart, who was 56th in the 1500m (4:06.52), Nick Delligatti, was placed 57th in the 400m (51.91), Carter Ward, who finished 60th in the 400m (52.20), Tom Papain, who was 65th in the 1500m (4:09.68), and Paul Szczepaniak, who was 71st in the 1500m (4:11.65).

The Rams will close out competition at the Colonial Relays on Saturday beginning at 9:00 AM.
