Fordham softball pitcher Jen Mineau (Schaghaticoke, N.Y./Hoosic Valley Central) was named ECAC Pitcher of the Week by officials from the ECAC on Tuesday, April 20, after she was named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season on Monday.
For Mineau, the regional honor is the third of her career as she was named ECAC Pitcher of the Week twice in 2009.
Mineau went 3-0 in Fordham's 6-0 week against both league and non-league opponents. Mineau earned the six-inning, 8-0 victory in the second game versus Fairleigh Dickinson at home on April 14. She allowed just five hits and recorded 14 strikeouts for the shut out victory. Over the weekend, the sophomore pitched another complete game shutout at George Washington (April 16) for a 3-0 Fordham win. She struck out 12 batters, 11 swinging. In the second inning, she struck out the Colonials' Autumn Taylor to record her 500th career K.
Against La Salle on Sunday, Mineau closed out the week with a 5-3 nine-inning victory. Mineau struck out 22 of the Explorer batters, setting a new Fordham single game record. The Schaghticoke native, has broken the record three times this season. In the season-opener, Mineau struck out 18 Morehead State batters (Feb. 20), breaking the original per game record of 14, set by Sara Kinney against Dayton on April 29, 2007. Since Feb. 20, Mineau has struck out 18 batters against Winthrop (March 20) and 19 at Dayton (March 28).
Currently, Mineau, a USA Softball Player of the Year Top 25 Finalist, has 358 season strikeouts, tying the Fordham team record for strikeouts in the season set by the 2007 Rams. As a team, Fordham has recorded 470 strikeouts, setting a new team record.
Mineau is 23-5 for the season, with an ERA of 0.77 in 190.2 innings pitched. The sophomore has won 10 complete game shutouts and has had a hand in 14 of the Rams' shut out victories overall. She has been named Pitcher of the Week two other times this season, Feb. 22 and March 1.
Hours after being named ECAC Pitcher of the Week, Mineau recorded her 11th shut out of the season at local-rival Hofstra. The Rams are currently 37-8 overall, 10-2 in league play.
