Fordham Finishes Three-Week Home Stand Hosting FDU Knights

BRONX, N.Y. - Fordham completes its three-week, 11-game home stand, on Wednesday, hosting the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights in a non-conference doubleheader played at the Bahoshy Softball Complex. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.

Fordham and FDU-Teaneck have a relatively short series history dating to 2002. Fordham holds a 6-0 record over the Knights at Rose Hill and a 10-1 series record overall.

Fordham (30-8) will look to extend their current winning-streak to six games, as the Rams are coming off a series sweep over the Saint Louis Billikens, 3-0, 5-2, over the weekend. So far in this home stand, the Rams are 7-2 overall and 4-0 against non-conference opponents. Fairleigh Dickinson (11-21) are coming off a doubleheader split against Columbia on Tuesday, April 13. Columbia took the first game from FDU, 12-8, but the Knights rebounded with a 5-2 victory in the second game. Fairleigh Dickinson is the first opponent from the Northeast Conference Fordham has played this season.

SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS
Fairleigh Dickinson Knights have only lost two of its last six games, with victories over St. Peter's, 8-0 (5), 8-2 (April 6), Bryant, W, 5-3 (April 11) and Columbia, W, 5-2 (April 13).

The Knights started their season at the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Fla., where they went 1-9 with their only victory against Rider (3-2 (8)).

Fordham is the first Atlantic 10 team FDU has faced this season.

The Knights are led by sophomore Caitlin Bradac at the plate. Bradac has a batting average of .365 with 27 hits and 22 RBI.

Rookie Mikayla Fernandez is second in batting average with a .301 mark. She leads the team in hits with 28 and has crossed the plate 19 times for FDU. In the circle, Bradac has also had the most appearances with a 8-5 overall record. Bradac has an ERA of 4.81 and has struck out 77 batters. Sophomore Kirsten Shreve has also seen ample time as pitcher, with a 3-9 record and a 6.86 ERA.

RAMS VS. KNIGHTS - THE SERIES
Fordham and Fairleigh Dickinson have met 11 times over the course of an eight-year period. Fordham has a 10-1 lead over FDU in the series, but the Knights won their first and only game against the Rams last season with a 9-1 victory in five innings. Fordham and FDU met once in neutral territory at the Rebel Games in 2003. The Rams are 6-0 over the Knights at home.

WHEN LAST THEY MET
The Rams and Knights saw eachother last on April 7, 2009. The Rams and Knights split the doubleheader with Fordham winning 11-7 in extra innnings (nine) but lost the second game 9-1 in five innings.

In game one, Mary Beth Puccio and Samantha Pellechio each had four hits, including a home run, as the Rams outlasted the Knights, 11-7 in nine innings.

The Knights tied the game with three runs in the sixth inning, Fordham eventually took over in the ninth inning adding six runs to break the three-inning extra time tie.

In game two, the Knights scored three times in the first inning and three more in the fourth inning to take a 6-1 lead. Jo Krasinsky scored the only run for Fordham with a solo homer.

Beckah Wiggins took the loss for the Rams, while Chelsea Plimpton earned the win in the first game.

ANDREWS RETURNS TO THE DUGOUT
Fordham alumna, Melissa Andrews will return to the Rams' dugouts on Wednesday, this time on the opposing side. Andrews will be on the baselines for Fairleigh Dickinson as the assistant coach.

Andrews (Class of 2009) was a All-Atlantic 10 player for Fordham, earning Second Team honors in 2007 and 2009 and First Team accolades in 2008.

HIGH SCHOOL REUNION
Two Fordham players will face former high school teammates against FDU, as both Jessica Richards (Fordham) and Mikayla Fernandez (FDU) went to Mission Viejo High School in California and Erin Fisher (Fordham) and Lauren Hamilton (FDU) played for Woodinville in Washington.

LAST TIME OUT
The Fordham softball team closed out its two-game series with Saint Louis with a 5-2 victory over the Billikens, a mascot representing good luck, on April 10 at Bahoshy. The Rams scored four of their five runs in the first inning. With the win, Fordham is 30-8 overall and 6-2 in Atlantic 10 play. Saint Louis falls to 18-16 overall and is also 6-2 in league action. Sophomore pitcher Jen Mineau recorded her 20th victory of the season (20-5) with 10 strikeouts against 24 Billiken batters.

Mineau struck out the side in the third inning for the 30th time this season. Mineau has 310 strikeouts this season, 483 for her career. With the victory, the sophomore recorded her 38th career win. Mineau's total puts her at No. 3 in Fordham's all-time record book. Sara Kinney (2003-07) is the program's win leader with 75. Carol Fischer (2001-05) is second with 42 victories.

Rookie Jamie LaBovick was perfect at the plate, hitting 3-for-3 with an RBI single in the first inning and additional singles in the third and fifth. Senior Erin Fisher was 2-for-3, with two doubles, including her hit in the first inning that confused the Billiken outfielders. The senior centerfielder got on base all six out of six times in the two-game series, with three walks on Friday and two hits and a walk on Saturday.

Hannah Huebbe (9-6) recorded the loss for the Billikens.

ON DECK
The Rams will travel to the nation's capital to face the George Washington Colonials in a two-day series. The Rams and Colonials will begin their series on Friday, April 16 with a game at 4 p.m. and finish up the short stint in Washington, D.C. with a game at noon on Saturday. The Rams will then travel to Philadelphia on Sunday to face La Salle in a doubleheader starting at noon.
