Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University men's tennis squad hosted St. Francis (NY) College on Tuesday on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts, defeating the Terriers by a score of 4-3. John Thornhill, Austin Shoup, Alex DeRienzo and Ken Fukumoto earned points for the Rams, winning at third through sixth singles, respectively.

The Rams opened the match by dropping the doubles point as St. Francis took two of the three doubles matches. Rob Evans and Ben Kelly won at second doubles for Fordham over Alex Tokarz and Edward Alontaga (SFC), 8-5. But Andriy Kulak and Jordan Brown were upended at first doubles by Danlahdi Robinson and James Brennan Tsang, 8-6 and Kevin Sullivan and Kei Usami lost at third doubles to Martin Grunin and Daniel Gonzalez, 8-2.

In singles action, the Rams won at third through sixth singles in straight sets. John Thornhill defeated Alontaga at third singles (6-4 and 6-3), Austin Shoup bested Gonzalez at the fourth position (6-3 and 6-3), Alex DeRienzo was victorious at fifth singles over Grunin (6-3 and 6-2) and Ken Fukumoto took the sixth spot from Tokarz (6-0, 6-2).

The Rams almost picked up another point at first singles as Dallas Harting took the first set from Robinson, 6-2, before Robinson came back to win the second and third sets by identical 6-3 scores.

The Rams will next be in action on Wednesday, April 14th, as they travel to Bronxville, N.Y., to face Concordia College at 4:00 p.m.
