Bethlehem, Pa. - The Fordham University women's tennis team traveled to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, to take on Lehigh University on the Ulrich Varsity Courts on Sunday, falling to the Mountain Hawks, 5-2. Bethany Boyle and Taylor Holt picked up the points for the Rams with wins at the third and fifth singles positions, respectively.
The Rams opened the match dropping the doubles point as Lehigh took two of the three doubles matches. Fordham's Elizabeth Stall and Martina Featherston won at third doubles over Abbey Perl and Kiera Murasko-Blank, 8-2, but Lehigh's Julie Arthofer and Liz Piscitelli upended Sarah Tremaine and Jennifer Mullen, 8-0, at first doubles and Stacy Reich and Patricia Muething defeated Fordham's Bethany Boyle and Taylor Holt, 8- 1, at second doubles.
Boyle and Holt took their singles matches in straight sets with Boyle winning 6-3 and 6-4 over Reich and Holt defeating Isabel Breit, 7-5 and 6-2.
Tremaine and Stall almost picked up points for Fordham, both falling in three sets. Tremaine dropped the first set at first singles to Piscitelli, 7-6, but came back to win the second, 6-2, to force a third set. But Piscitelli was able to pull out a 6-3 win in the final set for the victory. Stall opened her match with Gena Levengood at the sixth position by winning the first set, 6-1, but she would lose the next two, 7-6 (7-1 in the tiebreaker) and 6-0.
The Rams will next be in action on Saturday, April 17th, as they travel to Philadelphia to face Temple University at 12:00 p.m.
