CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - After two days at the Central Valley Country Club, the Fordham men’s golf team finished 15th of 19 schools at the Lafayette Invitational with a final score of 633 (324-309), shooting a combined 57-over par to finish on Sunday in Central Valley, Pa.
Binghamton won the invitational, finishing at +24 (310-290-600). Bucknell and Lafayette came in second and third.
The Rams defeated Robert Morris, as well as local rivals Manhattan, Hofstra and Wagner.
Fordham was led by sophomore Devon O’Rourke (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) who shot three better during Sunday’s round for a combined score of 13-over par (80-77-157). O’Rourke finished 41st out of 105 golfers, moving up two places from Saturday’s finish.
Coming in five places and one stroke behind O’Rourke was senior David Newman (North Dighton, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth Regional). Newman shot a 82 on Saturday, but rallied with Fordham’s lowest round of the invitational, a 76.
Rookie Jason Del Rosso (Orlando, Fla./Bishop Moore) also shot a 76 on Sunday but was plagued by Saturday’s 11-over par, 83, for a final score of 159, good for 54th place.
Classmate Brody Nieporte (Atlanta, Ga./St. Pius) who was tied with O’Rourke after Saturday’s round, fell to 63rd, after adding a stroke to his Saturday total of 80. Nieporte finished at 161 (80-81).
Closing it out for the Rams was sophomore Brendan Green (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) who finished 67th with a score of 162 (82-80).
The Rams will be back in action on Monday, April 19, when they travel back to Pennsylvania to play in the Mount Saint Mary’s Spring Invitational. The two-day match will be held at Quail Valley Country Club in Littlestown, Pa.
