Track & Field Competes at FDU Invitational

Palisades Park, N.J. - In the final tune-up for next week's Metropolitan Championship, the Fordham track & field team competed at the FDU Invitational at Palisades Park in New Jersey. In all, Fordham had three event winners and a total of 20 top three finishers.

The Rams posted event wins in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase, the men's 800 meters, and the women's high jump.

Pat McDonough won the men's 3000 meter steeplechase in a time of 9:56.46, as Fordham took first, second, and third in the event. Rich Grandelli (10:20.06) and Andrew Roddin (10:24.76) placed second and third, respectively.

Fordham duplicated that feat in the men's 800 meters, as this time Bernard Moore won the event in 1:59.22, followed by Ryan Campi in second (1:59.26) and Thomas Kelly in third (1:59.41).

The Rams' final event win came in the women's high jump, as Courtnay Newman, cleared 5'3" to capture first place. Newman also took second in the 100 meter hurdles in 16.62 seconds and sixth in the javelin throw (102' 11 ½").

In addition to the event winner's, Fordham had a second place finish in the men's pole vault, as Keegan Talty cleared 13' ¼", while Blair Hassell was second in the javelin throw with a distance of 122' 3 ½".

Picking up bronze medal finishes included Christopher Lyons in the 200 meters (22.48), Erik Lawrence in the 5,000 meters (16:44.04), Michael Rossi in the 400 meter hurdles (58.78), Sherilyn Groeninger in the 100 meters (12.53), Jana Trenk in the 5,000 meters (20:24.31), and Kathleen Toth in the 100 meter hurdles (19.00).

In the relays, Fordham had two second place finishes and two third place finishes. In the 4x100, the men's team of Nick Delligatti, Lyons, Frank Massaro, and Michael Bongiorno took second in 44.23, while the women's team of Groeninger, Kelly Connolly, Deanna Minasi, and Elisabeth Warren also grabbed second with a time of 51.06 seconds.

In the 4x400, the men's team of Lyons, Jarrett Anistranski, Campi and Kelly took third in 3:27.16, while the group of Connolly, Warren, Sheena Parand, and Ashley Davis finished in third in 4:05.78.

The Fordham track & field teams will next be in action on Saturday, April 17th, when they compete at the 2010 Outdoor Metropolitan Championships, held at Ramapo College.
