Cherry Hill, N.J. - The Fordham rowing squad traveled to southern New Jersey on Saturday to compete in the prestigious Knecht Cup on the Cooper River. The Rams entered boats in six different events, led by the varsity 8 which advanced to the petite finals on Sunday.
The varsity 8 opened competition by placing second in its heat in a time of 6:56.88, just behind Buffalo and head of UConn, Marist and Lehigh. With the second place finish, the Rams advanced to the semi-finals where they took fourth in their heat; qualifying the shell for the petite final on Sunday (the top two from each heat advanced to the grand finals with the third and fourth place boats advancing to the petite finals). Fordham's time of 6:55.07 was just behind Atlantic 10 rivals, Massachusetts, but ahead of North Carolina and Miami.
The Rams also competed in the second varsity 8, the freshmen/novice 8, the varsity 4, the second varsity 4 and the freshman/novice 4.

The Fordham freshman/novice 4 placed fourth in its heat in a time of 9:05.46, ahead of Temple. The time was fast enough to help the Rams move on to the semi-finals but in their heat of the semis, Fordham placed sixth in a time of 8:51.61, placing the Rams in the third level final on Sunday.
The second varsity 4 took second in its heat in a time of 8:04.08, just behind Buffalo but ahead of Loyola and Fairfield, and the second place finish was good enough to send Fordham to the second varsity 4 final on Sunday.
