CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Fordham men's golf team is in 17th place after the first day of play at the Lafayette Invitational in Center Valley, Pa. The Rams are 36 over par at the match held at the Center Valley Country Club.
Binghamton leads the 19 schools with a 310, +22.
Sophomore Devon O'Rourke (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and rookie Brody Nieporte (Atlanta, Ga./St. Pius) are the Rams' leaders with a score of 80. O'Rourke shot a 41 on the front nine and 39 on the back, while Nieporte a low score of 36 on the front nine, the lowest score of the day, but shot a 43 on the back nine for a six over par for the first round.
O'Rourke and Nieporte are 43rd out of a field of 105.
Senior David Newman (North Dighton, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth Regional) is two shots behind O'Rourke and Nieporte with an 82. Sophomore Brendan Green (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) also tallied an 82 and they are tied for 65th overall.
Rookie Jason Del Rosso (Orlando, Fla./Bishop Moore)is three shots behind the Fordham leaders with an 11-over par, 83. Del Rosso is tied for 72.
The men's golf team will continue play at the Lafayette Invitational on Sunday for the final day of play.
