Initial Draft of NCAA Self-Study Available On-Line

March 8, 2010

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham University has completed an initial draft of a comprehensive self-study evaluating the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation. The report will be open for public discussion in a town hall meeting from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, March 24, 2010, in Flom Auditorium at Walsh Library.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association requires all Division I schools to conduct self studies every 10 years to provide faculty, staff and students, as well as the public, with an overview of the department. This will be the third cycle review for the Fordham Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation. The department was deemed "Certified" during the first certification process in 1994-95 and again for the second cycle in 2000-01.

Fordham's current self study began in August 2009 with the formation of a university wide steering committee. Five subcommittees were formed to explore the following areas: governance and rules compliance, academic integrity, gender issues, diversity issues and student-athlete well-being. The subcommittees were comprised of faculty, staff, and student-athletes.

The steering committee will take into consideration questions and feedback received at the March 24 meeting. It will then finalize the report and forward it to the NCAA by April 30. The NCAA Committee on Athletic Certification will review the report and a peer review team will visit the Rose Hill campus in Fall 2010. The NCAA Committee on Athletic Certification will issue its findings by February 2011.
