Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University women's tennis team hosted the University of Rhode Island on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts on Wednesday, falling to the other Atlantic 10 Rams, 5-1. Taylor Holt picked up the point for Fordham, winning at the fifth singles position.

The teams competed only in singles matches with Rhode Island taking five of the six matches. Holt defeated Amanda Barletta at fifth singles, winning the first set, 6-1, before dropping the second, 6-4. Holt then led 3-0 in the third set when Barletta retired.

Fordham almost picked up another point at first singles as Martina Featherston took the first match from Kirsten Leikem, 6-4, but lost the second, 7-5. Leikem then won the match with a 6-2 victory in the third set.

The Rams lost the other singles matches in straight sets as Bethany Boyle fell to Pam Emery (6-2, 6-0) at second singles, Sarah Tremaine lost to Tristany Leikem (7-6 (9-7), 6-2) at the third position, Jennifer Mullen was upended by Christen Cadigan (6-3, 6-1) at fourth single and Elizabeth Stall fell to Brooke Hoover (6-4, 6-2) at the sixth spot.

There was also an exhibition match play with Fordham's Jane Carroll defeating Jenna Williams, 8-2.

The Rams will next be in action on Thursday, April 1st, as they host Long Island University on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts at 11:00 AM.
