Fordham junior secondbaseman Beckah Wiggins (Conklin, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) was named Atlantic 10 Player of The Week by officials from the conference on Monday, March 29 after she led the Rams to a 4-0 week against Saint Peter's and Dayton.
Wiggins batted .813 overall, going 13-for-16 with 20 RBI, five home runs, nine runs and no strikeouts. The Conklin native was 10-for-13 with runners on base, 3-for-3 with bases loaded and was a clutch hitter for the Rams as she hit 7-for-9, .778, for seven RBI with two outs on the board.
The junior infielder tied/broke six of Fordham's all-time records in four games last week. Against Saint Peter's on March 24 in the first game of a doubleheader, Wiggins broke the RBI record with nine, tied the hits in a game record with five and homeruns in a game record with two. She also tied the record for total bases in a game, touching the bags 11 times in her five at bats. In the first game at Dayton, Wiggins broke the homeruns in a game record with her three homeruns, including a two-out grandslam, and broke the total bases in a game record (12).
Wiggins' homerun and grandslam on Wednesday helped the Rams to a 21-1 five-inning victory over Saint Peter's, then her two RBI and triple helped Fordham to a 12-1, six-inning win in the second game over the Peahens. On Sunday, Fordham earned its first two conference victories as the Rams defeated the Flyers of Dayton, 11-0 (5 innings) in the first game and 10-3 in the second game. Wiggins went 5-for-7, with her three homeruns and eight RBI.
Her slugging percentage for the week was 1.875.
Fordham has a busy week at home, starting Wednesday with the first of an 11-game home stretch. Fordham begins their week with a non-conference game against St. John's on Wednesday, March 31 at 4 p.m. The Rams will return to Atlantic 10 action with a quick turnaround and doubleheader against Rhode Island on Thursday, April 1 and a doubleheader against conference-rival Massachusetts on Saturday, April 3. Both A-10 doubeheaders will begin at noon.
