Outdoor Track & Field Competes at Monmouth Invitational

West Long Branch, N.J. - While others members of the Fordham University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams were at the 2010 adidas Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State University, the rest of the squad competed at the 2010 Monmouth Season Opener in West Long Branch, N.J. where the Rams had one event winner, John Korevec, who won the 3000m steeplechase.

Korevec won the 3000m steeplechase race in a time of 9:44.10 but he wasn't the only one who found success in the event. Sam Stuart (10:12.92), Andrew Roddin (10:29.05) and Matt Collins (10:48.88) were seventh, ninth and 13th, respectively.

Other Fordham men finishing in the top ten on the day included Daniel Chediak (12-05.50), Ken Baron (12-05.50) and Keegan Talty (12-5.50), who placed third, sixth and seventh, respectively, in the pole vault (Chadwick also placed 16th in the 400m hurdles (1:00.38), Jarrett Anistranski (1:58.29), Carter Ward (1:58.41) and Thomas Kelly (1:59.25), who were fifth, sixth and ninth, respectively, in the 800m, Pat Brown, who was seventh in the hammer (148-0) and Paul Szczepaniak, who took ninth in the 1500m (4:06.59).

Other competitors for the Fordham men included Steven Dickinson (1:00.01) and Daniel Clemens (1:00.61), who took 14th and 20th, respectively in the 400m hurdles, Ian Powell, who took 15th in the 800m (2:00.36), Ryan Campi, who placed 15th in the 1500m (4:08.00), Nick Delligatti, who was 16th in the 400m (51.87) and 18th in the 200m (23.64), Frank Massaro, who placed 20th in the 100m (12.00) and 24th in the 200m (24.15), Michael Bongiorno, who was 21st in the 100m (12.05) and 23rd in the 200m (24.05), Brian Horowitz, who took 21st in the 1500m (4:10.10), Augustus Gleason, who placed 21st in the javelin (158-06), Steven Dickinson, who was 22nd in the 110m hurdles 918.31), Nicholas Synan, who finished 22nd in the 5000m (16:05.46), Patrick McDonough, who was 24th in the 1500m (4:10.92), and Vincent Servello, who was 24th in the 110m hurdles.

In men's relays, the 1600 sprint medlay A relay of Anistranski, Baron, Campi and Chediak took fourth in a time of 3:40.75 while the B squad of Horowitz, Massaro, Kelly, and Rich Grandelli was ninth in 3:44.53. The 4x100 relay of Delligatti, Bongiorno, Massaro and Clemens finished seventh in 44.19.

On the women's side, the top Fordham finisher was Courtnay Newman, who took seventh in the high jump with a leap of 5-02.25 while also taking 14th in the 100m (17.67) and 15th in the javelin (97-05).

Other female competitors for the Rams included Alison Bader, who placed 13th in the triple jump (31-6.50) and 19th in the 100m (14.52), Ashley Davis, who placed 13th in the 800m (2:25.76), Blair Hassell, who was 14th in the javelin (101-04), Kathleen Toth, who took 18th in both the 100m (18.74) and 400m (1:14.37) hurdles, Rachel Stearns, who was 21st in the 400m hurdles (1:16.80), Nako Nakatsuka, who finished 23rd in the 1500m (5:05.61) and Kellen Fitzgerald, who was 24th in the 400m (1:04.79)

In women's relays, the 1600 sprint medley relay of Bader, Bridget Carroll, Davis, and Fitzgerald finished tenth in 4:41.46.

The Fordham men's and women's outdoor track and field squads will next be in action next Friday and Saturday, April 2nd and 3rd, as they travel to Williamsburg, Virginia, to compete in the Colonial Relays.
