Philadelphia, Pa. - The Fordham University men's tennis team traveled to Philadelphia on Saturday to face La Salle University where the Rams fell to the Explorers by a final count of 5-2.

The Rams picked up their points in singles matches as Alex DeRienzo and Ken Fukumoto won at the fifth and sixth singles position, respectively. DeRienzo took the first set from La Salle's Trevor Donovan, 6-4, before dropping the second by the same 6-4 score. But DeRienzo came back to win the tiebreaker, 10-6, and pull out the victory.

Fukumoto needed just two sets to defeat La Salle's Rob Knaster, winning both by identical 6-2 scores.

The Rams opened the match dropping the doubles point, losing two of the three matches. DeRienzo and Eli Plangger won at second doubles for Fordham, defeating Fernando Tovia and Bill Nason, 9-7 (5), but Dallas Harting and John Thornhill fell to La Salle's George Gennaoui and Jon Maula, 8-2, at first doubles and Rob Evans and Nick Kelly dropped third doubles to Christian Harvey and Trevor Donovan, 8-6.

Thornhill and Austin Shoup came up just short in picking up two more points for Fordham as each fell in three sets. Thornhill dropped the first set to Maula, 6-4, but came back to take the second, 6-2, before falling in the third, 8-1. Shoup lost the first set to Nason, 6-3, before winning the second, 6-1, but he fell in the third set, 6-3.

The Fordham men's tennis squad will next be in action on Wednesday, March 31st, as they host Rider on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts at 4:00 PM.
