Track & Field Opens Competition at the Raleigh Relays

Raleigh, N.C. - Members of the Fordham track & field team opened two days of competition on Friday at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by N.C. State. Fordham competed in a total of eight events on the day, with senior Brigid Moriarty posting the highlight of the day with an ECAC qualifying time in the 10,000 meter run.

Moriarty placed sixth overall in the 10,000 meter run in a time of 35:41.96, qualifying for the ECAC Championship by better than two minutes. Her time also ranked as the second fastest in school history, behind only school record holder Lauren Gubicza.

Fordham also had solid performances in the day one relays, as the men's 4x1500 relay, consisting of Kevin Fitzgerald, Brian Riley, Julian Saad, and Brian Schmidt, took fourth overall in a time of 16:08.27. In the sprint medley relay, the women's team of Kelly Connolly, Kerri Gallagher, Catherine Groene, and Sherilyn Groeninger, took seventh in a time of 4:08.70, while the men's team of Sean Atkinson, Christopher Lyons, Michael Rossi, and Tim Hutchinson, placed 12th overall in 3:33.12.

In the individual events, Tom Papain took 15th in Section III of the 5,000 meter run in 15:14.21, while Lyons (40th - 49.35) and John Cosgrove (96th - 52.37) ran the 400 meter dash. Groeninger and Elisabeth Warren also competed in the 100 meter dash, as Groeninger was 56th in 12.70 seconds, while Warren was 68th in 12.99 seconds.

Over in the field events, Warren finished 35th in the long jump with a mark of 16' 8 ¾".

Competition at the Raleigh Relays will wrap up on Saturday.
