Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University men's tennis squad fell to Fairfield University, 6-1, in a match on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts on Wednesday. Ken Fukumoto picked up the point for the Rams, winning at sixth singles in straight sets.

The Rams opened the match by dropping the doubles point, losing all three doubles matches. Dallas Harting and Austin Shoup fell at first doubles to Dan Sauter and Joe Michalisin, 8-2, while Kevin Maloney and Alex DeRienzo lost at second doubles to Rob Ferrante and Ryan Berthoud, 8-3. The Stags completed the doubles sweep as Erik Kremheller and Mark Kremheller bested Eli Plangger and John Thornhill at third doubles, 8-0.

The Rams then picked up a point in singles play as Fukumoto won at sixth singles over Mike Lessing in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4. But that was the only point the Rams would get as the rest of the Fordham singles players fell in straight sets. Harting lost to Sauter at first singles, Maloney lost to Michalisin at second singles, Thornhill was upended by Ferrante at third spot, Shoup lost to Berthoud at fourth singles and DeRienzo fell to Erik Kremheller at fifth singles.

The Fordham men's tennis team will continue its 2010 spring schedule by traveling to Philadelphia to take on La Salle University on Saturday, March 27th at 10:00 a.m.
