Teaneck, N.J. - The Fordham University women's tennis team traveled to Teaneck, N.J., to face FDU on Wednesday, falling to the Knights by a 6-1 score. Jennifer Mullen accounted for the Rams' point with a win at fifth singles.
The Knights opened the match by taking the doubles point, defeating Fordham in all three doubles matches. Elmine Botes and Julija Korshunova defeated Sarah Tremaine and Martina Featherston at first doubles, 8-0, while Ksenia Chernyshova and Jessica DeCarlos upended Fordham's Taylor Holt and Bethany Boyle at second doubles, 8-3. At third doubles, Jinny DeCarlos and Christina Martine got by Elizabeth Stall and Jennifer Mullen by an 8-6 score.
In singles play it took Mullen overtime but she defeated Dzana Ferhatbegovic at fifth singles, winning the first set, 6-4, before dropping the second, 6-2. But Mullen came back to win the tiebreaker, 10-8.
Fordham almost picked up another point at sixth singles as Brittany Russell won the first match from Christina Martine, 7-5, but lost the second, 6-4. Martine then won the match with a 10-6 victory in the tiebreaker.
The Rams lost the other singles matches in straight sets as Tremaine fell to Korshunova (6-0, 6-1), Featherston lost to Botes (6-1, 6-0), Boyle was upended by Chernyshova (7-5, 7-5) and Holt fell to DeCarlos (6-4, 6-4) in first through fourth singles, respectively.
The Rams will next be in action on Friday, March 26th as they travel into Manhattan to face Columbia University at 4:00 p.m.
