Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season at George Mason Quadangular Meet

Fairfax, Va. - The Fordham University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams opened their 2010 spring season on Saturday as they competed at the George Mason Quadangular Meet. The Fordham men placed fourth of six teams while the women were sixth of seven teams.

Fordham had one event winner on the day as Sherilyn Groeninger won the women's 100m in a school-record time of 12.35, breaking her former school mark of 12.54 seconds set last year. Groeninger also placed ninth in the 400m (25.79).

On the men's side, the 4x400 relay team took second in an IC4A qualifying time of 3:17.10, just 0.11 seconds behind Air Force.

Also enjoying a successful afternoon for the women was Brigid Moriarty, who took second in the 3000m in a time of 10:02.18 while Catherine Groene was second in the triple jump with a leap of 10.90m. Groene also placed third in the 400m hurdles (1:04.46).

For the men, John Cosgrove was the top finisher, taking third in the 800m in a time of 1:55.67 while John Korevec was fourth in the 3000m steeplechase in a time of 9:55.23.

Also placing in the top ten for the men were Pat Brown, who was fourth in the hammer (44.55m) and eighth in the shot put (10.21m), Michael Bongiorno, who was fifth in the 200m (23.10) and eighth in the 100m (11.69), Christopher Lyons, who placed fifth in the 400m (49.78), Daniel Clemens, who was fifth in the 110m hurdles (16.27) and sixth in the 400m hurdles (59.48), Kevin Fitzgerald, who took fifth in the 3000m (8:49.62), Vincent Servello, who placed sixth in the javelin (46.99m), Brian Schmidt, who was sixth in the 1500m (4:01.08), Steven Dickinson, who was sixth in the 110m high hurdles (17.31) and seventh in the 400m hurdles (59.60), Sean Atkinson and Michael Rossi, who placed seventh (49.96) and eighth (50.95), respectively, in the 400m, Frank Massaro, who was seventh in both the 100m (11.64) and 200m (23.41), Daniel Chediak, who finished eighth in the 400m hurdles (1:02.41), Jarrett Anistranski, who was ninth in the 800m (1:59.52), Fred Wertz, who took ninth in the 100m (11.82), Nick Delligatti, who placed ninth in the 200m (23.43), Ryan Campi, was was tenth in the 800m (1:59.58), Vincent Servello, who placed tenth in the 200m (23.85) and Tim Hartnett, who finished tenth in the 3000m (9:05.09).

Other women placing in the top ten included Elisabeth Warren, who took fifth in the long jump (5.22m) and tenth in the 400m (26.26), Kerri Gallagher, who was fifth in the 3000m (10:22.38), Courtnay Newman, who finished eighth in the high jump (1.55m), Kathleen Toth, who was ninth in the 400m hurdles (1:13.96) and Kerri Kwalwasser, who placed ninth in the 800m (2:21.91).

In the women's relays, the 4x100 team placed second in 49.73 seconds while the 4x400 team was seventh in 4:22.53.

The men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will return to action on Friday, March 26th, as they compete at the North Carolina State Invitational.
