Rowing Opens Spring Season at Wiliam & Mary

March 19, 2010

Williamsburg, Va. - After traveling down to Richmond, Virginia, to open the spring portion of its schedule, the Fordham rowing spring saw the season delayed a day due to the heavy rains over the weekend that left the James River 13 feet above normal, causing the schedule regatta on Wednesday with Richmond to be canceled.

As a result, Fordham moved 60 miles down Route 64 to Williamsburg where the College of William and Mary hosted the Rams on Thursday. The two schools competed in just two races, the varsity 8 and the varsity 4 with the Fordham varsity shell winning both.

In the varsity 8 race, the Fordham varsity 8 won in a time of 7:22 followed by the Fordham junior varsity 8 (7:31), the Fordham freshman/novice 8 (7:40) and the William & Mary freshman/novice 8 (7:46).

In the varsity four competition, the Rams won in a time of 7:48, well ahead of the only other boat in the race, the William & Mary freshman/novice (9:15).

The Tribe only raced one boat in each of the two races, its freshman/novice shell, due to class conflicts with their varsity crews.

The Fordham rowers will next be in action on Saturday, March 27th as they compete with Army, Drake, Fairfield, Iona and Sacred Heart in Shelton, Connecticut.
