Softball's Mineau & LaBovick Receive Weekly A-10 Honors

March 1, 2010

Newport News, Va. - Fordham University sophomore Jen Mineau (Schaghticoke, N.Y./Hoosic Valley Central) and freshman Jamie LaBovick (Peoria, Ariz./Sunrise Mountain) were both selected as Atlantic 10 weekly award winners for softball today, as Mineau earned her second Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week accolade, while LaBovick was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for her first career honor.

Mineau, who shared this week's pitching honor with Charlotte's Emily Jeffrey, earns her second Pitcher of the Week award this season and fourth of her career. At this weekend's Palm Springs Classic, she posted three wins, two shutouts, and 44 strikeouts in five appearances.

Mineau opened the tournament with a three-hit shutout of #19/24 Texas A&M, recording 15 strikeouts while giving up just three hits. She now holds the Rams' top two strikeout games for a pitcher after breaking the mark last week. She also gave up just one earned run and struck out 11 batters in a win over Oregon State, Fordham's first-ever win over a Pac-10 program. Mineau then closed out the tournament with a four-hit, 13-strikeout shutout of UNLV.

Overall, Mineau improved to 5-1 on the season with 75 strikeouts, just three walks, and a 0.72 ERA.

LaBovick registers her first A-10 honor after connecting for two home runs and four RBI at the Palm Springs Classic. She sealed the Rams' 4-0 victory over #19/24 Texas A&M with a two-run home run, and later had a two-run homer in Fordham's shutout win over UNLV. LaBovick made two pitching appearances as well, with her best performance coming against #13/14 California, where she threw 2.1 innings of one-hit relief.

LaBovick is now hitting .261 on the season, while posting a 1.05 ERA in the circle.

Mineau, LaBovick, and the rest of the Fordham softball team will next be in action on March 5-7, as they play in the USF/Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Florida. The Rams will face FIU and Florida Gulf Coast on Friday, March 5th, followed by games against Central Michigan and Memphis on Saturday, March 6th. Fordham will conclude its tournament run on Sunday, March 7th with a single game against Ball State.
