Track & Field Competes at Giegengack Invitational

New Haven, Conn. - Heading into their final meets prior to the Atlantic 10 Championships, the Fordham track & field teams headed up to New Haven, Connecticut for the Giegengack Invitational, where the Rams had a pair of ECAC/IC4A qualifying times, as well as seven top ten finishes.

Leading the performances, Brian Schmidt and Kerri Gallagher each posted their second ECAC/IC4A qualifying time of the season. Schmidt, who already qualified for the IC4As in the 500 meters, did so in the 800 meters today, placing fifth overall in a season-best time of 1:53.53.

Joining her 1,000 meter qualification, Gallagher's latest ECAC qualifier was in the mile run, where she was fourth overall in a season-best time of 4:57.46.

In addition to Schmidt and Gallagher, Fordham had four other individuals with a top ten finish, two of which came in the field events. Catherine Groene placed seventh in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 35' 5 ¼", while Pat Brown was eighth in the weight throw, with a season-best distance of 49' 11 ¼".

In the track events, Brigid Moriarty was sixth overall in the 3,000 meter run in a season-best time of 10:01.65, with Sherilyn Groeninger taking ninth in the 60 meter dash finals in 7.99 seconds, after running 7.90 in the preliminaries. Groeninger also placed 13th overall in the 200 meters in 26.17 seconds, which was also a season-best time.

Coming up just shy of top ten finishes, Kerry Kwalwasser was 12th in the 500 meters (1:20.56), Kelly Connolly was 14th in the 800 meters (2:24.10), Tim Hartnett was 12th in the 5,000 meter run (season-best - 16:03.18), and Brian Riley was 17th in the mile run (season-best - 4:19.39).

In relay action, Fordham had their final top ten of the day, as the women's 4x400 relay of Gallagher, Groene, Connolly, and Kwalwasser placed sixth overall in 4:00.64. The men's 4x400 relay was 11th overall in 3:25.46.

The Fordham track & field teams will be in action multiple times this week, as the team will break up and compete at Manhattan's mini meet on Wednesday (Feb. 10), the Armory's Night at the Races on Thursday (Feb. 11), and the Valentine's Day Classic in Boston on the weekend (Feb. 12-13).
