Trudging through the winter weather that hit the New York area all day Friday, the Fordham track & field teams still found their way to the Armory Track & Field Center for the NYU FasTrack Invitational. This was the final tune-up for the Rams heading into the ECAC/IC4A Championships on March 6-7 in Boston, Massachusetts.
In all Fordham had eight top ten finishes, led by Kerri Gallagher and Sherilyn Groeninger. Gallagher won the 800 meter run in a time of 2:08.95, while Groeninger placed ninth in the 60 meter dash in a school record time of 7.86 seconds. She set the record at 7.87 seconds earlier this season. In addition to the 60 meter dash, Groeninger also finished sixth in the 200 meter dash in 25.97 seconds.
On top of Gallagher and Groeninger's performances, Elisabeth Warren posted a season-best mark of 17' 9 ¾" in the long jump, placing fourth overall, while Catherine Groene was seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 36' 2 ¼". Courtnay Newman competed in a pair of events, tying for seventh in the high jump (5' 1") and finishing 12th in the 60 meter hurdles (9.82). Sheena Parand also had a top ten for Fordham, taking tenth in the 1000 meters (3:05.83), with Kelly Connolly posting the Rams' best time in the 400 meter dash this season at 58.93 seconds (21st overall).
On the men's side, Kevin Fitzgerald was the lone top ten finish, as he took eighth in the mile run in a season-best time of 4:16.46.
In addition to Fitzgerald, Fordham had three runners in the 1000 meters, led by Bernard Moore in 11th (2:34.31) and followed by Tim Hutchinson in 12th (2:34.62). In the 400 meters, Brian Schmidt was 16th overall in 49.57 seconds, while Michael Rossi was 18th in the 500 meters at 1:06.02. The Rams also had three runners in the 800 meters with John Cosgrove taking Fordham's top spot in 18th place (1:57.23).
