Track & Field Earns Four All-Conference Accolades on Day Two of the 2010 Atlantic 10 Championship

Kingston, R.I. - It was a record-setting day for one Ram at the 2010 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships and a All-Conference day for another as Brian Schmidt won the 800 meters in an Atlantic 10 record time while Kerri Gallagher won one event and took second in another to earn All-Conference accolades on day two of the championships at Rhode Island's Mackel Fieldhouse.

This is the first time that Fordham has had multiple running event victories at the Atlantic 10 Championship, since joining the league in 1996.

Schmidt won the 800 meters in an Atlantic 10 record time of 1:52.86, 1.33 seconds ahead of La Salle's Terence McPeak, and 0.10 seconds better than the former conference record of 1:52.96 set by La Salle's Marc Cianfranni in 1998.

In addition to Schmidt's individual run, he helped the 4x400 relay earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10, as the group of Sean Atkinson, Nick Delligatti, Christopher Lyons, and Schmidt placed second in 3:19.03.

On the women's side, Gallagher started her day by placing second in the mile in a time of 4:55.76 to earn Second Team All-Conference honors. Later in the day, she came back to take first in the 1000 meters, winning in a time of 2:55.25, almost two seconds ahead of La Salle's Kellilyn Fierras.

In the team competition, the Charlotte men's track and field team successfully defended its indoor crown from a year ago as it totaled 207 points. The 49ers also earned a share of the women's team title as it split with Dayton, finishing with 145 points at the 2010 Atlantic 10 Championships.

On the men's side, Charlotte captured its fourth title in five years as it topped Rhode Island (129 points), which finished runner-up for the third-consecutive season. Rounding out the standings were Temple (126 points), La Salle (82 points), Massachusetts (68 points), Saint Joseph's (45 points), Fordham (39 points), Xavier (35 points), Richmond (32 points) and Saint Louis (17 points).

On the women's side, Charlotte and Dayton split the championship for the first time in league history.

Temple posted its highest finish since 2003 as it finished third with 108.50 points. Rhode Island (105 points), Duquesne (57.50 points), Saint Louis (46 points), Massachusetts (39 points), Richmond (36 points), Saint Joseph's (36 points), La Salle (35 points), Fordham (26 points) and Xavier (one point) rounded out the standings.

Also scoring for the Fordham men on day two were Kevin Fitzgerald and Brian Riley. Fitzgerald placed fourth in the 1000 meters in a time 2:27.98, just 0.59 seconds out of second place, while Riley was eighth in the 3000 meters in a season-best time of 8:41.06.

In the heptathlon, Vincent Servello placed sixth with 4165 points while Augustus Gleason was right behind him, taking seventh with 4064 points. In Saturday's competition, Servello placed fifth in the pole vault (12-3.5) while Gleason was sixth (10-11.75) while the results were the same in the 1000m with Servello taking fifth (2:47.13) and Gleason sixth (3:01.74). In the 55m hurdles, Servello finished eighth (9.10) while Gleason in ninth (9.25).

In teh other men's relay, the 4x800 team of Tim Hutchinson, Michael Rossi, Bernard Moore and Fitzgerald placed third in a time of 7:50.72, just 0.49 behind second place Rhode Island.

Also scoring for the women on day two was Sherilyn Groeninger, who placed sixth in the 55m in a time of 7.39.

Other women competing on day two were Brigid Moriarty, who was tenth in 3000m (10:06.18), and Courtnay Newman, who tied for tenth in the high jump (5-1).

In the women's relays, the 4x800 team of Deanna Minasi, Ashley Davis, Christina Machado and Nako Nakatsuka placed 12th (10:02.55), while the 4x400 relay of Kelly Connolly, Elisabeth Warren, Catherine Groene, and Kerry Kwalwasser took ninth in 3:59.85.
