West Point, N.Y. - The Fordham University women's tennis squad continued its 2010 spring season on Sunday at Army, falling to the Black Knights, 7-0, at West Point.
The match opened with Army taking the doubles point, winning two of the three doubles matches. Annie Houghton and Jessica Ahn defeated Fordham's Martina Featherston and Sarah Tremaine at first doubles, 8-2, but Bethany Boyle and Taylor Holt upended Army's Audrey Hansen and Jurelle Mendoza upended at second doubles, 8-0. The Black Knights took the doubles point when Fordham's Jennifer Mullen and Brittany Russell fell to Maria Casaletto and Kari Pope, 8-1, at third doubles.
In singles play, the Rams dropped all six matches in straight sets with the exception of fourth singles where Holt forced Paige Ford to a third set. Ford won the first set, 6-2, before Holt came back to take the second, 6-4. But Ford held off Holt in the tiebreaker, winning 10-3.
The Rams will next be in action on Sunday, February 21st as they travel to Hamden, Connecticut, to face Quinnipiac University at 2:00 PM.
