Fordham University freshman swimmer Brienne Ryan (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) earned her sixth weekly award of the season today, as she was named Atlantic 10 Women's Swimming Rookie of the Week, for the week ending January 31st. This is her fifth rookie award of the season to go along with one Performer of the Week accolade.
She is the first swimmer since UMass' Cristen Dexter in 2001 to be named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week at least five times.
Ryan picked up the rookie award, following two individual event wins in Fordham's victory at UMass on Saturday. She set the Rodgers Pool record in the 100 backstroke, winning the event in 56.61 seconds, while capturing the 200 backstroke in 2:04.63.
Ryan also helped the 200 medley relay win their event in a pool record time of 1:46.64.
Ryan and the rest of the Fordham swimming & diving teams will next be in action on Wednesday, February 3rd, when the team hosts St. Francis College at 6:00 PM in the Messmore Aquatic Center.
