Men's Soccer Places Three on 2010 NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region Teams

Dec. 9, 2010

Kansas City, Kansas - The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced its 2010 Men's Soccer All-Region Teams today with three Fordham Rams earning accolades. Junior goalkeeper Ryan Meara (Crestwood, N.Y./Fordham Prep) and junior midfielder Tim Richardson (Palmerston North, New Zealand/Palmerston North) were selected First Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region, while sophomore Marcus Axelsson (Jorlanda, Sweden/Katrinelund) was named Third Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region.

This marks the sixth straight season that Fordham has had at least one representative on the NSCAA All-Region team, and the second consecutive year which Fordham has had three players earn All-Region distinction.

Tim Richardson received All-Region honors for the second straight year.

Meara, now a three-time NSCAA All-Region selection, earned First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors for the second straight season back in November. He was an iron man in net for Fordham, playing all but eight minutes this season (1659:10), posting career-best numbers with a 10-8-0 record, a 0.81 goals against average, and an .808 save percentage. He also added 6.5 shutouts and 63 saves. In league play, Meara led the Rams to a 5-4-0 mark, posting a 0.78 goals against average, 3.5 shutouts, and a .825 save percentage. Previously, Meara earned First Team All-Region honors in 2009 and Third Team in 2008.

Marcus Axelsson received All-Region honors for the first time this season.

Richardson, now a two-time NSCAA All-Region pick, earned All-Conference accolades for the second straight season, as he was named Second Team All-Atlantic 10 in November. He tied for the team lead in scoring with 10 points and assists with four. He added three goals during the season, two of which were game-winning goals. Last year, Richardson was a Second Team All-Region selection.

Axelsson earns his first major postseason award after starting all 18 games in the Fordham backfield. He tallied two goals and an assist for five points from his defender position. Both markers were game-winning goals this season against Manhattan and George Washington. He also earned Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors once this season.

The Rams finished at 10-8-0 overall this season, 5-4-0 in the Atlantic 10. It was the team's first ten-win season since 1998.
