The Fordham women's basketball team looks to improve on its 2-1 record against opponents from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, as the team travels to New Rochelle to face the Iona College Gaels in the Mulcahy Center.
The Rams look for their second consecutive win away from the Rose Hill Gymnasium as they recently defeated fellow MAAC team Rider 67-55 in a game played in Lawrenceville, NJ on December 8. Excluding tournaments, the Rams own a 2-0 road record this season. With a victory, Fordham looks to improve back above the .500 mark for the third time this season.
SERIES HISTORY: This will be the 42nd all-time meeting between Fordham and Iona. The Rams own a 24-17 all-time lead in the series, including an overall record of 10-8 in games played in New Rochelle. The two teams last faced each other on December 9, 2009 in The Rose Hill Gymnasium. Fordham won that contest 70-64, and looks for their second-consecutive win over the Gaels this season. The two sides have split the last 10 meetings, dating back to 1994.
SCOUNTING THE GAELS: Iona enters the contest with a 3-6 mark on the season.The defeated Bucknell in their last game,67-54. The Gaels are led by Anda Ivkovic (13.5 ppg). She is shooting .525 from the field (42-80) and is second on the team with 109 points. Kristina Ford leads the team in points (118) and in second in scoring (13.1).
DOMINATING THE MAAC: The Rams own a winning record against opponents from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference for the second consecutive season. With wins over Rider and St. Peter's this year, and a setback to Manhattan, Fordham is 2-1 heading into the game with Iona. The Rams were 3-1 last season versus the MAAC.
THE TRI-STATE AREA: Fordham boasts a 4-2 record against opponents from the tri-state area. They wins came against Stony Brook, Fairleigh Dickinson, St. Peter's and Rider.
RISING IN THE RECORD BOOKS: Becky Peters hit two milestones in the Manhattan game as she collected both her 300th career rebound and her 125th steal. Additionally, her first point scored against Iona will be her 800th career point. She is currently ranked 24th on the all-time scoring list, trailing Jada Jefferson at 803.
HITTING THE GLASS: One of the biggest improvements for the Rams this season has been the team's work on the glass. Fordham has outrebounded its opponent in eight of 12 contests this season. The Rams have five players averaging over 4.0 rebounds per game, led by Tiffany Stokes at 6.8 per game. Fordham won the rebounding battle only nine times in 30 games a year ago.
