Dec. 21, 2010

The ranks of Fordham University Athletic Hall of Famers will grow by five on Saturday, February 5th, as the Rams induct the newest class at the annual Hall of Fame Awards Brunch at 10:30 a.m. in Fordham's McGinley Center located on the school's Bronx campus.

Joining the likes of such Fordham notables as Frankie Frisch, Vince Lombardi, Vin Scully, Wellington Mara and Peter Harnisch will be Kirstin Gellatly FCRH '03 (Women's Soccer), Tad Kornegay CBA `05 (Football), Edgar Nanne FCRH `03 (Rowing), William Slater CBA '64, GSAS '66 (Cross Country/Track), and Molly Welsh Kruger FCRH '87 (Swimming & Diving).

Kirstin Gellatly

Gellatly was a Second Team All-Atlantic 10 selection as a senior in 2002 when she tied for fifth in the conference in goals scored and tied for tenth in total points. Over her career, she scored 33 career goals in three years, placing her second on the Fordham all-time scoring list, two behind fellow Hall of Famer Denise Corrado while her 73 career points is also second on the Fordham all-time list. In 2001, she also set a school record with 11 points in a single game against St. Peter's, while tying the single game goal mark with five tallies. Following her career, she joined the Fordham women's soccer coaching staff for two seasons from 2003 to 2004.

Kornegay, a 2004 consensus All-American, was a finalist for the 2004 Buck Buchanan Award, presented to the NCAA I-AA Defensive Player of the Year and was one of 40 players named to the 2004 NCAA I-AA.org All-Star Team. He led the Patriot League and ranked second in the NCAA I-AA in interceptions as a senior, averaging 0.73/game and twice set the Fordham school record with three interceptions in a game that season.

Tad Kornegay

Kornegay wrapped up his Fordham career by winning the 2005 Vincent T. Lombardi Memorial Award as the school's male student-athlete of the year. He has played professionally for the past six year in the CFL, the last four with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Nanne, who transferred to Fordham prior to his junior year from the University of Guatemala, was a member of the lightweight 8 crew that won the 2002 Dad Vail Championship and 2003 ECAC National championship. In the summer after his junior year, he placed tenth in the World Championships in the lightweight single, one of only a handful of collegiate rowers to advance to the semifinals at the World Championships.

As a senior, Nanne won the lightweight 8 and heavyweight singles titles at the Central American and Caribbean Games in the fall and then captured the New York State championship in the varsity 8 boat. Following graduation he placed 17th in the World Championships in the lightweight single, one of the few collegiate rowers to advance to the semifinals at the World Championships, and won a bronze medal at the Pan Am Games, finishing ahead of an entry from the U.S.

Slater fought through debilitating injuries suffered in a fire when he was a child to become one of the top runners at Fordham in the early 1960's. As a freshman he went undefeated on the 1960 freshman cross country team, setting ten course records and winning the Metropolitan IC4A championship.

During his sophomore year, Slater was voted MVP of the varsity cross country team and was a member of the second place IC4A Indoor Championship two mile relay. As a junior, he was a member of the two mile relay that recorded the fourth fastest indoor time in the world up to 1963 as well as a member of the NYAC Games record-setting relay. His injuries caught up to him his senior year as he missed most of the season.

Welsh, who was named the 1986 Female Athlete of the Year by The Ram, won three straight MAAC diving titles from 1984-86. She set a conference record at the MAAC championships on the one-meter board as a junior in 1986 (406.55) while also placing second on the three-meter board, qualifying for the NCAA championships on the three-meter board. Welsh also captured the MET Championship title on both boards that year and was named Most Valuable Diver of the Meet.

Welsh graduated with school records on both the one and three meter board and still holds the one meter record for eleven dives, the longest standing women's swimming and diving record at Fordham.

The 2011 Hall of Fame ceremony will begin with a special mass at the University Church at 9:30 a.m. The Hall of Famers and their guest will then proceed to the McGinley Center Ballroom for the formal induction ceremony beginning at 11:00 a.m. Former WFUV announcer Brian Clark FCRH '10 will serve as the Master of Ceremony at the brunch.
