Fordham Baseball Spreads Holiday Cheer

Dec. 18, 2010

Bronx, N.Y. - It's the holiday season and continuing a longstanding Fordham tradition, the Rams have once again been in the giving spirit of the holidays, as the Fordham baseball team hosted a Christmas party for children at the Fordham Bedford Children's Center this past week.

The Rams contributed gifts and a pizza party for all of the after-school kids this past Tuesday.

"It was a great effort by the entire team, as we all pitched in for the party, whether it was getting the food, buying gifts, or wrapping them for the kids," said senior catcher Chris Walker, following the event. "It's always fun to give back to the community and sees the smiles on the kids' faces."

Head Coach Nick Restaino agreed with Walker's comments, "It was a great afternoon. Cold outside, but very warm inside. It was fun to see the players interact with the kids from opening of their gifts to playing board games. I was very proud of our team, for making sure the day was special for each one of the Fordham Bedford kids."

The party is just one of the many Bronx community events that Fordham student-athletes participate in, as a part of the Jesuit philosophy of being a person for others. Other activities include the annual Christmas Toy drive and visits to the Union Health Community Center and St. Barnabas Hospital, as well as the Read-a-Book program at the Union Health Community Center.
