The Rams enter the game with a 4-4 record after defeating Manhattan, 73-59, in the annual Battle of the Bronx in the Rose Hill Gym on Wednesday night. St. John's enters the game with a 5-2 record after falling to St. Bonaventure, 67-66, in Carnesecca Arena on Tuesday night. The Red Storm will be making their first appearance in the Rose Hill Gym since December 20, 1995.
Fordham will be guided into the game by first-year head coach Tom Pecora, who arrived at Rose Hill in March after nine successful seasons as the head coach at Hofstra where he averaged 20 wins during the past six years.
On the court, Fordham is led by sophomore Chris Gaston and senior Brenton Butler. Gaston has posted a double-double in six of the first eight games and is averaging 15.5 ppg and 12.9 rpg while Butler, who has scored more than 20 points in the past two games, is leading the team, averaging 16.1 ppg. Freshman guard Branden Frazier, a product of Bishop Loughlin High School in Brooklyn, is off to a good start, averaging 11.1 ppg.
Saturday's game will be the 82nd meeting between the Rams and the Red Storm on the hardwood. St. John's leads the all-time series, 61-20, and has won the past three matchups, including a 73-56 win in Carnesecca Arena last December.
Come out and support your Rams on Saturday night!
