Track & Field Hosts Annual Christmas Classic Meet

Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham track & field teams hosted nine others squads this evening in the annual Christmas Classic, held at the Lombardi Center Fieldhouse on Friday. The Rams had another solid performance as a group with six first place finishes on the night.

The Fordham women had three event wins, beginning with sophomore Courtnay Newman taking first in the high jump, clearing 5'5". She later earned a third place finish in the 60 meter hurdles, posting a time of 9.3 seconds.

The next event win came in the mile, as senior Kerri Gallagher placed first in her first race of the winter in a time of 5:12.4 Gallagher later came back in the women's 4x400 relay with Kelly Connolly, Diane Bain, and Elisabeth Warren to earn a second place finish in 4:04.9.

In addition to the relay, Warren had a good evening in the jumping events, placing second in the triple jump (33' 6"), third in the high jump (4' 9"), and fourth in the long jump (14' 11 ½"), while Connolly placed third in the 500 meters in 1:18.4.

The final women's win came from freshman Anisa Arsenault, who captured the 3,000-meter run in 10:27.7.

In the men's competition, senior Pat Brown got the night started with a win in the weight throw event. Brown finished with a season-best mark of 53' 8 ½".

Also in the field events, junior Kyle Kesses won the high jump, clearing 6' ¾", and later came back to take eighth in the 500 meters.

The men's team then dominated the 500 meters with four of the top five finishers, led by sophomore Sean Atkinson, who won the event in 1:06.2. He was followed in by Nick Delligatti in second (1:06.5), Michael Rossi in a tie for third (1:07.2), and Michael Bongiorno in fifth (1:07.3).

The Rams also had a number of second place finishes on the evening. Freshman Ryan Polo was second in the mile in 4:24.0, while Vincent Servello was second in long jump (18' 7 ¾") and the triple jump (40' 4 ¾"). The Rams earned second, third, and fourth in the pole vault, led by Keegan Talty, who cleared 12' 9 ½", while in the 3,000-meter run, Tim Kazanjian (9:21.5) and Patrick Burke (9:21.9), placed second and third respectively.

The Fordham track & field teams will next be in action on January 7th, when the teams compete at the Metropolitan Coaches Invitational, held at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York.
