Water Polo's Ali Arat Named to CWPA Northern Division Offensive Player of the Week

Nov. 9, 2010

Bridgeport, Pa. - The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) announced its weekly awards and honor roll this afternoon, as Fordham's Ali Arat (Istanbul, Turkey/Sisli Terakki Secondary) was named Northern Division Offensive Player of the Week, while Victor Bautista Medina (San Cristobal, Venezuela/Juan XXIII) was named to the league's weekly honor roll.

Arat is the second Ram to receive Offensive Player of the Week honors, joining Ryan Hultman, who received the award last week.

Arat totaled nine goals, four steals, and two blocks at this past weekend's CWPA Northern Division Championship, as the Rams finished in third place, clinching their second straight Eastern Championship berth.

He opened the Championship with two goals and a steal in a win over Harvard, and then had one goal and a steal in an 11-7 loss to 14th-ranked St. Francis College. Arat then finished the championship with a bang, netting six-goals, two steals, and an assist in a win against MIT.

Overall, Arat leads the Rams with 88 goals and 99 points this season. His 88 goals now rank as the second-highest total in school history behind only Ned Kelly's 112 markers in 1971.

Bautista Medina posted four steals, two blocks, four assists and a goal at the CWPA Northern Division Championship. He had two assists, a steal, and a block in the opening win over Harvard, and followed with a goal and a block against 14th-ranked St. Francis College. He ended the Championship with three steals and two assists against MIT.

Bautista Medina leads the Rams with 26 assists and is third on the team in steals with 34.

Arat, Bautista Medina and the rest of the Rams (16-14) will next be in action on November 19-21, as the team competes at the Eastern Championship, held at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa.
