Katie McDermott Named First Team All-Atlantic 10 for the Third Straight Season

Nov. 3, 2010

Newport News, Va. - Fordham University senior midfielder Katie McDermott (Tucson, Ariz./Catalina Foothills) was selected to the Atlantic 10's All-Conference First Team for the third consecutive year in a vote conducted by the conference coaches, it was announced today. McDermott was also picked by the conference's sports information directors to the Atlantic 10's All-Academic Team, just one day after being named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team in a voting among the district's sports information directors.

McDermott becomes the first Fordham women's soccer player to earn All-Conference honors in each of her four seasons, and joined Allison Twarowski (softball) and Bryant Dunston (men's basketball) as the only Fordham athletes to receive All-Atlantic 10 honors four times.

A psychology major and holding the team's highest GPA, McDermott just concluded her senior season on Sunday, appearing in her 78th career game, which tied the program's all-time mark set by Alexis Ribadeneyra (2004-07) and matched by McDermott's fellow classmate Michelle Ancelj (2007-10).

On the season, McDermott finished third on the team in scoring with three goals and four assists for 10 points, and was a candidate for the Lowe's Senior Class Award. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

McDermott, who is also a former All-Rookie Team and All-Region selection, finished her outstanding career with 13 goals and 12 assists for 38 points. She is tied for fifth in career assists at Fordham and 11th in points, while starting 72 contests, which is tied for third all-time with Beth Kitson (1999-2002).
