Piscataway, N.J. - Competition at the Frank Elm Invitational, held at Rutgers' Sonny Werblin Recreation Center, came to a close on Sunday in Piscataway, New Jersey. The day saw two events win by the Rams, as the Fordham men's team finished fifth out of eight teams, while the Fordham women were seventh out of 15 teams.
The final day opened with the 1650 freestyle, as Megan McGorry placed fifth in 17:16.74, while Kara Field took 16th in 17:31.91. On the men's side, Brendan O'Morchoe (17:39.59) and Nicholas Alemann (17:40.86) placed 12th and 13th, respectively.
Next was the 200 backstroke, where Brienne Ryan won the event in a season-best time of 2:01.92, followed by Christina Cosentino in 14th place (2:10.58) and Alexandra Wessel in 19th (2:10.41). On the men's side, Robert Gitman was the top finisher in fifth place at 1:55.24 with Thomas Yi taking seventh in 1:56.90. The Rams had five others swimmers score in the 200 backstroke, including Michael Grimmett-Norris (10th - 1:56.43), Will Thomann (12th - 2:00.81), Michael Abrams (18th - 2:05.94), Kyle Silbernagel (19th - 2:08.69), and Cameron Crowell (20th - 2:08.74).
The Rams then had six swimmers score in the men's 100 freestyle, led by Billy Colton, who took third overall in a season-best time of 46.48 seconds. Shintaro Noguchi and John Kundrat followed in 10th (47.51) and 15th (49.01) place, respectively, while Nicholas Belfanti won the "C" final for 17th overall in 48.42 seconds. Danny Thrall (19th - 49.19) and David Rowley (22nd - 50.16) also scored in the event.
The Rams better that mark in the 200 breaststroke with eight men scoring, led by Ben Dwyer taking fourth in a season-best time of 2:11.08, while Sean McManus was eighth in 2:14.93. Matt Grabiak won the "C" final for 17th place in 2:14.96, while Joe Hines (19th - 2:16.32), Giuseppe Saffos (20th - 2:16.74), Mike Collison (21st - 2:20.23), Nick Lusardi (23rd - 2:23.97), and Will Strobel (24th - 2:24.65) rounded out the scorers.
Fordham then picked up its second event win, as Courtney Collyer won the women's 200 butterfly in 2:04.99. Megan McGorry also scored in the event, placing 16th in 2:11.88. On the men's side five Rams scored, headed up by Chris Schneck in 12th place in 2:00.26.
The final event was the 400 freestyle relay, as the men's team of Noguchi, Kundrat, Belfanti, and Colton placed third in 3:10.43, while the women's team of Kelly Bunster, Alana Biagioli, Allie Alessi, and Ryan were fifth in 3:34.18.
The Fordham swimming & diving teams will next be in action on Saturday, December 4th, when they compete in a tri-meet against Boston College and Williams College at Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
