Swimming & Diving Continues Competition at Frank Elm Invitational

Day Two Results Get Acrobat Reader

Piscataway, N.J. - The Fordham swimming & diving teams continued their run at the Frank Elm Invitational, hosted at Rutgers' Sonny Werblin Recreation Center in Piscataway, New Jersey. On day two, Fordham stands seventh out of 15 teams on the women's side, while the men are fifth out of eight teams.

Events began with the 200 medley relay, where the women's team of Brienne Ryan, Courtney Collyer, Kelly Bunster, and Kellie Lyver placed eighth in 1:48.26. In the men's race, Billy Colton Matt Grabiak, Shintaro Noguchi, and Patrick Mulligan placed seventh in a season-best time of 1:36.04.

Next came the 400 individual medley, where Courtney Collyer won the "B" final in a season-best time of 4:31.90, placing 9th overall, while Megan McGorry (20th - 4:37.12) and Kara Field (22nd - 4:41.21) made the "C" final. On the men's side, Michael Grimmett-Norris took 11th in a team-best time of 4:10.63.

In the 100 butterfly, Collyer came back to win the "C" final in 58.22 seconds, while Noguchi took 2nd in the "A" final in 51.09 seconds. Chris Schneck also made the finals of the men's 100 butterfly, taking 20th in 53.13 seconds.

Then in the 200 freestyle, Alexandra Wessel was the Rams' top finisher, taking 14th in 1:55.52, while Alana Biagioli was 22nd (1:56.76). On the men's side, Nick Belfanti (1:45.85) and John Kundrat (1:46.30) both made the "C" final, placing 20th and 24th, respectively.

The 100 breaststroke was the next event, which saw a total of six men's swimmers score. Grabiak was the top finisher in 5th place in 1:00.18, with Ben Dwyer winning the "B" final in a season-best time of 1:00.02. Other scorers in the event were Joe Hines (14th - 1:01.90), Giuseppe Saffos (19th - 1:01.83), Mike Collison (20th - 1:02.25), and David Rowley (22nd - 1:03.00).

The 100 backstroke followed, as Ryan won the women's event in a season-best time of 56.27 seconds, while Christina Cosentino was 11th in 58.75 seconds. In the men's event, Colton won the "B" final in a season-best time of 51.27 seconds. He was one of four swimmers to break the Elm Invitational meet record of 51.45 seconds. Robert Gitman then won the "C" final in 53.04 seconds.

The final swimming event was the 800 freestyle relay. Though the women's "A" relay was disqualified, the "B" team of Allie Alessi, Field, Lyver, and Lara Moseley placed 3th in 7:53.33, while the men's team of Noguchi, Kundrat, Belfanti, and Thomas Yi were sixth overall in 7:04.87.

In the diving events, Brittany Salas placed 14th in the women's three-meter dive with a score of 196.20, while Kevin Wong (150.45) and Joon Kynng Kim (132.70) placed 19th and 20th, respectively, in the one-meter competition.

The Elm Invitational will conclude competition on Sunday.
