Swimming & Diving Opens Three-Day Competition at Frank Elm Invitational

Piscataway, N.J. - The Fordham swimming & diving teams began a three-day competition on Friday at the Frank Elm Invitational, held at Rutgers' Sonny Werblin Recreation Center. The Rams posted 10 team-best times on day one in the 10 swimming events, while having one season-best mark in the men's three-meter dive.

The day began with the 200 freestyle relay, where the women's team of Kellie Lyver, Kelly Bunster, Alexandra Wessel, and Brienne Ryan placed sixth overall in a season-best time of 1:37.31. The men's relay, consisting of Shintaro Noguchi, Billy Colton, Patrick Mulligan, and Danny Thrall, also posted a season-best time, placing fifth in 1:25.16.

The next event was the 500 freestyle, in which Megan McGorry placed eighth overall in a season-best time of 5:03.14. Kara Field made the "B" final, placing 12 overall in 5:05.80. In the men's event, Michael Grimmett-Norris made the "C" final, finishing 18th overall in a personal-best time of 4:43.79.

The night continued with the 200 individual medley, where Courtney Collyer won the "B" final in a season-best time of 2:08.45, which was good for ninth overall. On the men's side, three Rams made the finals, led by John Kundrat in the "B" final, placing 12th in a season-best time of 1:57.42. Both Thomas Yi (1:58.39) and Robert Gitman (1:59.26) made the "C" final, taking 21st and 22nd overall, respectively.

Three Rams then made the finals of the women's 50 freestyle, led by Ryan, who took fifth in the "A" final in 23.96 seconds (season-best). Lyver placed second in the "C" final (18th overall) in 24.72 seconds, while Bunster was 23rd in 24.82 seconds. In the men's 50 freestyle, Colton and Noguchi made the "B" final, placing 10th (21.48 - season-best) and 12th (21.52), respectively.

The final swimming event was the 400 medley relay, where the women's team of Ryan, Collyer, Bunster and Lyver took fifth in a team-best time of 3:53.81. The men then matched that season-best performance, as Gitman, Sean McManus, Noguchi, and Colton took sixth in 3:30.02.

In diving, Elizabeth Dorger (224.65) and Andrea Krok (219.45) made the finals of the one-meter competition, placing eighth and tenth, respectively, while Brittany Salas took 17th overall (192.05). The men competed in the three-meter board, as Joon Kynng Kim put forth a season-best score of 159.10, taking 18th overall, while Kevin Wong was 20th (133.95).

Competition continues on Saturday, beginning at 9:30 AM.
