Darryl Whiting Honored by College Football Performance Awards

Nov. 2, 2010

2010 College Football Performers of the Week (Nov. 1, 2010)

For the fifth time this year a Fordham University football player has been honored by the College Football Performance Awards. This week it was junior running back Darryl Whiting (East Elmhurst, N.Y./Holy Cross) who was named a College Football Performance Awards national NCAA FCS honorable mention running back performer of the week. He is the fourth Ram to be honored in the past nine weeks, joining Patrick Murray, who was twice recognized as a national NCAA FCS honorable mention punter performer of the week, Blake Wayne, who was twice honored as the honorable mention quarterback performer of the week, and Jason Caldwell, who earned the accolade at wide receiver.

In Fordham's 24-19 win over Patriot League rivals Georgetown on Saturday, Whiting rushed 38 times for 251 yards and two touchdowns. The 251 rushing yards is the third best game in Fordham history, behind only Chip Kron, who rushed for a school record 272 yards against Georgetown in 1972, and Kirwin Watson, who gained 256 against Holy Cross in 2001.

On the year, Whiting leads the team with 547 rushing yards on 114 carries (4.8 yards/carry) with five touchdowns while also catching five passes for 13 yards. He is second in the Patriot League, averaging 68.4 rushing yards/game.

The Rams will continue their 2010 schedule on Saturday, November 6th, as they travel to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, Bucknell University Bison at 1:00 p.m.
