The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its 2010 All-Conference teams and major award winners today, as three Fordham Rams were listed. Fordham senior Katie Wells (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) earned Honorable Mention All-Atlantic 10 honors, while freshman Mary Diamantidis (Moraga, Calif./Miramonte) was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team in a vote conducted by the conference head coaches. Senior Christi Griffiths (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) was the final award winner, receiving Atlantic 10 All-Academic team accolades, in a vote of the conference sports information directors.
Wells, a Second Team All-Atlantic 10 pick in each of the last two seasons, appeared in all 34 matches for Fordham, starting 30. She was second on the squad with 321 kills, a 2.57 kills per set average, a .242 hitting percentage, and 81 total blocks. She had 17 matches with at least ten kills, which included seven of the final eight matches of the regular season. In conference play, Wells led the squad with a .247 hitting percentage, while being third in total blocks (40), and second in kills with 151. Over the course of the season, she became the eighth member of Fordham's 1,000-kill club, and ranks fourth all-time with 1,234 kills and second in hitting percentage (.287)
In her first season, Diamantidis fought her way into the starting setter spot by mid-September and never looked back, accounting for 937 assists, a 9.76 assists per set average, and 191 digs for a 1.99 digs per set average. She eclipsed the 40-assist mark on ten times, including a season-high 60 versus George Washington on October 9th. In conference play, Diamantidis averaged 10.1 assists and 2.33 digs per set.
Griffiths, a former two-time All-Atlantic 10 selection, receives her first Academic accolade. She is majoring in Accounting, and boasts a 3.68 GPA. She had another standout season for Fordham, leading the squad in hitting percentage (.282), service aces (27), and total blocks (94). Over the course of the season, Griffiths has become the Rams' career leader in matches played (136), sets played (512), total blocks (414), block assists (314), and solo blocks (74), while being second all-time with 1,370 kills.
